5 Shows Like Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is one of the best shows on TV, period. If you're like us and find yourself jealous of all those Game of Thrones fans who have never seen it before (or haven't seen it in a while), read on! These are just a few shows that will scratch your itch until you are ready to re-watch Game of Thrones all over again —and they're some pretty great shows, too! So, without further ado, here are 5 shows like Game of Thrones.
House of Dragon
House of Dragon is definitely the place to start when looking to quench that Game of Thrones thirst. The show is a prequel and is set 200 years before the events of GOT. We can promise that it has just as much action, drama and adventure, so be prepared to be glued to your seat. In a nutshell (because we don’t want to give too much away), the story follows the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the sagas that lead to the "Dance of the Dragons". Make sure to add this one to your watch list!
Rome
Rome is an American historical drama television series created by William J. MacDonald and Bruno Heller. The show, set in ancient Rome, chronicles the lives of two Roman soldiers who get caught up in political warfare after the murder of the Emperor.
Rome takes place in ancient Rome and follows two Roman soldiers as they rise through the ranks of the military. This is one of our favorite shows because it has so much action and suspense! It’s a great show to watch if you want to learn about Roman history. The acting is amazing and we love the costumes. If you like shows about ancient Rome, then this one's for you!
The Borgias
The Borgias is a show about a powerful family in the 1500s. The family is led by Pope Alexander VI (Jeremy Irons), and it also includes his children: Cesare, Lucrezia and Joffrey. The series follows them as they try to stay at the top of Rome's hierarchy and balance their love lives with their political ambitions.
The Borgias is like Game of Thrones in that it's about power, love and betrayal—but it's tamer than Game of Thrones when it comes to violence and murder. Both shows feature many memorable characters who have complex relationships with each other—and both explore themes of religion versus power as well as issues surrounding sexuality.
The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom is an adaptation of Saxon Tales, a series of historical fiction novels by Bernard Cornwell. The show takes place in the 9th century, with the majority of its action taking place in Northumbria (modern-day northern England).
The main character is Uhtred of Bebbanburg, a young man from Wessex who is captured by Danes and raised as one of them. As he grows up and comes into his own powers he begins to see himself as Danish but feels compelled to return to his homeland when it comes under attack.
Spartacus
Spartacus is a historical drama television series created by Steven S. DeKnight, who also served as executive producer alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. The story is loosely based on the historical figure of Spartacus and takes place in the Roman Republic between 73 BC and 71 BC. The story centers on a Thracian slave rebel named Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield) who leads a revolt against his master Marcus Licinius Crassus (played by John Hannah). The first season shows Spartacus' life as a gladiator fighting in Italy under Quintus Lentulus Batiatus (Peter Mensah), while the second season chronicles events leading up to the Third Servile War, where Spartacus fights for his freedom from Roman slavery.
