Many Avatar fans have been awaiting a sequel for longer than they had hoped. In fact, director James Cameron has been talking about a sequel since the release of the first Avatar, but it is only now that we get to prepare for the next chapter.

So, this blog is going to explore everything that you need to know about Avatar’s upcoming sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water”. This long-anticipated movie will be hitting the big screen on 16 December 2022, so here are all the details you need to know in the meantime. Stay tuned…

What to Expect

If you’re like us, you have already started to think about the endless possibilities James Cameron might take us to in this sequel. Well, from what we know so far, we don’t think you will be disappointed.

Family is Central to the Story

The universal theme in “Avatar: The Way of Water” is family, something that all of us can resonate with. We know that this story will follow Jake Sully’s family and the ups and downs that they face together while living in Pandora. Apparently, the family element to this sequel will be the connecting factor to all Avatar movies past and future, so we can expect to see true insights into the journey the Sully family endures. This is an exciting development from the first Avatar, and we look forward to seeing new sides to the characters that we love.

The Cast

A question that many want answers to in regards to “Avatar: The Way of Water”, is about the cast. Is the old cast returning? Will there be new cast members?

Well, from what we know both Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be returning to play the beloved Jake and Neytiri (phew!). Stephen Lang will also be returning as Colonel Miles Quaritch, who is said to be the main villain of this story.

Although we are excited about a lot of the original cast returning, we also look forward to some newcomers. Kate Winslet will be blessing our screens in this sequel as she plays a freediver who lives in the water in Pandora. Some other fresh faces you can expect include Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, and even Vin Diesel!

Get Ready to Go Underwater

The title may have been a bit of a giveaway, but nevertheless, we can expect the majority of this sequel to be underwater, as we discover Pandora below the surface. It is known that extremely advanced technology was used to film the water scenes, and we have to give kudos to Kate Winslet who held her breath for 7 minutes while underwater… What a legend!

New Shooting Challenges

Some serious high-tech was used to make this movie, so you can expect the FX to be epic! This sequel is said to push the limits of everything we have seen before in terms of the 3D experience, visuals, and overall cinematography.

Seeing as a whole lot of this movie is going to be underwater, the shooting challenges of this sequel stem from just that. The cast was seriously put to the test while having to endure not only being underwater for long periods of time but also acting while doing so!

Any movie fan, whether they enjoyed the first Avatar or not will appreciate the shooting challenges that came along with creating this sequel and we can’t wait to see the finished product.
